Kempula Lakshminarayana, M.A., is the founder of Sree Veerabramham Educational Society. His commitment to public life began in his student years, when he became a leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the national student organisation. He has long served society as a worker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
That commitment was tested during the Emergency of 1975 to 1977, when civil liberties were suspended across India and many activists were detained. In November 1975 he was imprisoned for 33 days.
In 1982 the nearest junior college was more than 50 km from Gorantla. Students who finished Class 10 had to travel to other towns to continue their studies, and many, especially girls and children from poorer families, had to stop there. On 10 September 1982 he founded SAPS Govt. Aided Junior College so they could complete their Intermediate education at home.
By 2010, SAPS graduates faced the same barrier one step further on: degree colleges were out of reach for many of them. That year he founded ANK Degree College, so students could earn a degree without leaving Gorantla.
Since its founding, the society has educated more than 20,000 students. More than four decades on, both colleges continue the work he began in 1982.
